September 20, 1849: On this day, Champagne Binet was established. Champagne in the Brut, Blanc de Blancs, and Rosé de Saignée styles are produced by this house.

September 20, 2006: On this day, Henri Jayer died. French winemaker Henri Jayer is credited for bringing significant advancements to Burgundian winemaking. He was particularly renowned for the excellence of his Pinot noir. Vosne-Romanée is the place of Jayer’s birth. Henri Jayer wines are presently in high demand and renowned for their harmony, elegance, lushness, and concentration. A single bottle can fetch hundreds of dollars. The French government informed Jayer in 1996 that he had two options: retire or lose his pension. In return, Jayer gave his nephew, Emmanuel Rouget, ownership of his vineyards; but, until 2002, Jayer was still in charge of bottling half of the wine sold under Rouget’s name. The 2001 vintage was Jayer’s last. At the age of 84, Jayer passed away from prostate cancer in Dijon, France.

September 20, 2021: On this day, Craggy Range was recognized as the best winery in Australasia (Australia, Melanesia and New Zealand) by World Best Vineyards. This family-run business operates out of the Gimblett Gravels wine growing district on the Ngaruroro River.
