March 19, 1933: The Estado Novo was established. From 1933 until the Carnation Revolution in 1974, Portugal was under the corporatist rule of the Estado Novo, sometimes referred to as the Second Portuguese Republic. The Federaço dos Vinicultores do Centro e Sul de Portugal was established along with this new government in 1933 with its primary function being market regulation of wines.
March 19, 1999: Yountville AVA was founded. This appellation consists of 4000 acres of planted vineyards. The AVA centers around Yountville town, named after Geroge Yount, who planted the first vineyards in the region in 1836. The appellation boasts 4000 acres of planted vineyards. Its soils are mostly gravelly silt loams. In addition, it is elevated 20-200 feet above sea level. Yountville AVA has a unique terroir and climate, allowing the Cabernet Sauvignon varietal to flourish.
