Sonoma Coast AVA was established

1987 - Sonoma Coast AVA was established

More than 500,000 acres (2,000 km2) of land make up the Sonoma Coast AVA, an American Viticultural Area in Sonoma County, California, in the United States. The majority of this land is located along the Pacific Ocean’s coast. It stretches from San Pablo Bay to the Mendocino County boundary. It is well-known for having a cool climate and receiving more rain than other areas of Sonoma County. Because of the region’s wide variety of microclimates, requests have been submitted to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau of the United States Department of the Treasury for the establishment of sub-AVAs, like the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA, which was granted in December 2011.
