2013 - Moon Mountain District – Sonoma County AVA was established
1,500 acres of wine grapes are grown on the 17,663 total acres that make up Sonoma County, which is located on the Mayacamas Mountains’ western flank. Elevations in this long, narrow area range from 400 to 2,200 feet. There are 40 vineyards and 11 wineries in this AVA, which was formed in 2013. Its rocky hillside terrain and chilly ocean breezes set it apart from the Sonoma Valley region. With its chilly winds and fog, as well as its heated air and enhanced sun exposure, this particular region presents farmers with a difficulty in achieving a balance. Here, Rhône and Bordeaux grape varieties flourish.
