1936 - Loire Valley wine region established
Despite being the third-largest producer in France, Loire Valley is hardly unknown. The huge valley, which covers about 500 miles, is best known for its two bookends: Muscadet to the west and Sancerre, which is so far to the east that it is really closer to Champagne than to its own cousins in the centre of the Loire region.
