1907 - Languedoc growers’ uprising occurred

The French government of Georges Clemenceau suppressed the Revolt of the Languedoc Winegrowers, a large-scale uprising that took place in 1907 in Languedoc and the Pyrénées-Orientales. It was brought on by a severe winemaking crisis at the turn of the 20th century. The Midi “paupers uprising” was another name for the movement. It was distinguished by the 17th Line Infantry Regiment’s camaraderie with the Béziers protesters.
