1983 - Heidi Peterson, a winemaker from Berkeley, California started her career
Some of California’s most renowned cult wines were created by winemaker and entrepreneur Heidi Peterson Barrett. She has worked at a variety of wineries throughout her career, including Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle Vineyards, Paradigm Winery, Grace Family Vineyards, Amuse Bouche, Lamborn Family, Showket Vineyards, Revana Family Vineyards, Vineyard 29 and Fantesca. Barrett owns her own wine label, La Sirena, and she consults for Diamond Creek Vineyards, Niebaum-Coppola, and Kenzo Estate. At the age of 30, Barrett left Buehler and went out on her own as a consultant for winemakers. Dalla Valle was her first client and she collaborated with Gustav Dalla Valle, the company’s owner, to obtain her first two 100-point ratings from Robert Parker of Wine Advocate. Following his breakthrough with Dalla Valle, Barrett started collaborating with Screaming Eagle’s Jean Phillips. Barrett started working with Phillips on an ad hoc, hourly basis, and Phillips was the realtor for Barrett’s first customer, Gustav Dalla Valle. After the 1992 vintage of Screaming Eagle, this brand gained popularity, and Barrett was dubbed a “winemaking celebrity”. After that, Barrett started working as a winemaker for Ren Harris of Paradigm Winery, where she developed her profession further.
