It is no accident that Château Margaux is known as “the Versailles of the Médoc.” The estate’s history as a vineyard stretches back to the sixteenth century, but it is Louis Combes’ Neo-Palladian villa from the nineteenth century, which serves as the winery’s signature and is what gives its First Growth wines their distinctive gold and white labels.
