September 22, 1943: On this day, Robert Finigan was born.  He was a San Francisco-based American wine and restaurant critic, most active in the late 1970s and early 1980s, during which he released a popular newsletter. He passed away on October 1st, 2011.

September 22, 2005: On this day, Abadía Retuerta‘s “Special Selection 2001” was awarded as “the best red wine in the world” by the International Wine Challenge. Abadía Retuerta was built as a luxury hotel to refashion and preserve The Abbey of Santa María de Retuerta, an 8 century old site, with a unique wine tradition and a farm located on the Douro River.

September 22, 2015: On this day, the original version of Wine Folly: The Essential Guide to Wine, authored by Madeline Puckette and Justin Hammack, was published following the success of their site Wine Folly.  The book is a guide to the most common topics related to the world of wine, such as types of wine, regions, how to serve wine, tasting methods, and flavors. To this day it is a staple introduction for new enthusiasts in the world of wine.
