October 13, 2018: In this day, at Sotheby’s auction, a bottle of 1945 Domaine Romanee-Conti Grand Cru broke a new record by selling for $558,000, making it the most expensive bottle of wine ever to be sold worldwide. The vintage is distinguished by being the last year before the original vines on the property were replaced, due both to their waning efficacy and the phylloxera epidemic. Only 600 bottles were produced from this year.
