May 3, 1940: Bill Koch was born. Aside from his billionaire business activities, Koch is also an avid wine collector and, like many in the market for rare and expensive wines, has been subjected to fraud on multiple occasions. Perhaps the most famous incident of this sort was his lawsuit against Rudy Kurniawan, who had managed to pass by the suspicions of many in the wine auction scene.

May 3, 2023: An article in Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences presented residue analysis of a Spanish olive jar from 1490s Isla de Mona, Puerto Rico, giving the earliest evidence of wine consumption in the Americas.
