May 2, 1927: On this day, John Michael Broadbent was born in Yorkshire, England. Originally trained as an architect, he began working in the wine industry in his mid-twenties and worked within auction houses and firms that specialize in the sale and trade of wines, keeping extensive notes through it all. He was certified as a Master of Wine in 1960, and soon after originated the wine auctions at the Christie’s branch in London. He passed away on March 17th, 2020.

May 2, 1993: On this day, Julio Gallo, one of the co-founders of the famed E & J Gallo Winery, passed away due to a car crash.
