May 18, 1152: This day marks the union of Eleanor of Aquitaine, the Duchy of Aquitaine’s heir, and Henry Plantagenet, who would later become king of England, was the next key development in the history of the Bordeaux wine region. The marriage unified England, Normandy, and western France under Plantagenet’s dominion.
