March 10, 1936: On this day, Paul Draper, a California-based winemaker, was born. He has been the chief winemaker at Ridge Vineyards since 1969.

March 10, 1939: On this day, Hugh Eric Allan Johnson was born in London. He is the author of classic books including Hugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Book, The Story of Wine, and The World Atlas of Wine. He largely sways towards opposing hegemonies of specific styles and tastes, favoring less-uniform approaches to wine making. He has the title of Officer of the French Order Nationale du Mérite as well as the Order of the British Empire.

March 10, 2016: On this day, Bodega Garzón inaugurated its new sustainable winery, which is, according to their site, “the first sustainable, LEED certified (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) winery outside North America, following the strict requirements set by the United States Green Building Council.”
