January 9, 1984: On this day, Niagara Icewine Festival was started. The dessert wine called ice wine is made from grapes frozen on a vine. It is a specialty of many of Canada’s wineries, and the festival in Niagara is held to celebrate this uncommon wine.

January 9, 2012: On this day, Tesco caught the famed restaurateur, chef, and television personality Antony Worrall Thompson shoplifting wine and cheese. After installing a security camera at the Oxfordshire location, employees discovered that the Food and Drink presenter frequently bagged items that had not been paid for at the self-checkout. He once spent £180 on three boxes of Champagne, but then stole items worth £4 instead. Police issued Worrall Thompson a caution.
