January 10, 2013: On this day, Tim Hanni, Master of Wine (MW), wrote his book, “Why You Like The Wines You Like,” in which he first publicly criticized the wine industry. In particular, he criticized restaurant wine selections for having nearly no sweet wines and for disengaging their “sweet vinotype” clients. His research into consumer wine preferences and ground-breaking ideas for wine and food pairing earned him the nickname “Wine Antisnob” from the Wall Street Journal.

January 10, 2022: January 10 is observed as (National) Champagne and French Fry Day, celebrating the pairing of acidic, effervescent Champagne with salty, fatty fries.
