February 9, 1960: On this day, The Angelo Petri, the world’s largest wine tanker, ran aground near the Golden Gate Bridge on Sunday. It was named after Angelo Petri, an Italian-American tobacconist and vintner whose family-owned firm was the largest wine distributor in the world as of the mid-1950s.
