August 7, 1954: On this day, Simon Woolf was born. He collaborated with Ryan Opaz to offer a narrative and visual exploration into the heart of Portuguese Wine. The book was first released in October of 2021, and shortly after, it was named the Best Wine Book of the Year by the New York Times.

August 7, 2015: Squaw Valley-Miramonte AVA was established. It is located in the eastern part of Fresno County. Its terroir is unique from other AVA in the county, experiencing long Sundays. However, its temperatures are regulated by winds from surrounding mountains. The AVA receives high rainfall that is drained by the slopy topography. Its key varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Barbera.

August 7, 2016: On this day, the documentary “A Year in Port” was released. It is the third in a trilogy on niche types of wine, and won a James Beard award for Best Documentary. Martine Saunier served as the film’s port wine advisor.
