April 11, 1962: Terrell Lee “Terry” Hoage was born on this day. He is a former American college and professional football player who spent thirteen seasons as a safety in the National Football League in the 1980s and 1990s. Terry and Jennifer Hoage purchased a vineyard in the Willow Creek AVA of Paso Robles in 2002 and grew it to 26 acres of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and a few white Rhône varieties. Though Jennifer is now the lead winemaker, Justin Smith of Saxum was an early mentor.
