A fountain in Italy made of red wine

If you’re in Italy and are looking for a place to have a glass of wine, consider visiting Cantina Dora Sarchese. When you arrive at the winery, you’ll be greeted by an open courtyard with tables and chairs where you can relax after your trip. Fontana del vino often called the free red wine fountain in Italy, is a famous wine fountain built by local winemaker Dora Sarchese. It’s also one of the most spectacular fountains in the world.

Cantina Dora Sarchese wine fountain

Cantina Dora Sarchese, situated in the Apennines in Abruzzo, Italy, near Rome, has installed a flowing fountain of red wine[1]. The cantina Dora Sarchese red wine fountain is the world’s first free red wine fountain. Its purpose is to spread the appreciation of good Italian wine and to provide, during opening hours, a tasting of excellent wines for visitors.

The fountain is an unusual way to serve wine, but it can make for an even better experience than your typical bottle or glass. The pouring method exposes the wine to more oxygen (Jeff Flowers, 2014), giving you a fresher taste and aroma than usual.

Location of the wine fountain

The city of Villa Caldari, in the Abruzzo region of Italy, has been home to a free red wine fountain since the late 19th century. Located in front of Stazione train station and within walking distance from the main square and other points of interest, this unique destination is guaranteed to offer an unforgettable experience for all its visitors.

Take a one-hour train ride from Pescara central station and visit Caldari di Ortona, a small town within the Abruzzo district of Italy. Here you will find Stazione, a historic building erected in the early 1900s to serve as the town’s railway station but still a landmark today.

Italian authorities have declared this beautiful structure a national monument, and it is considered a significant point of interest in the area. This area’s free red wine fountain is located near Stazione street, number 65. The fountain is located just outside Stazione and close to other major points of interest in Villa Caldari. [2]

Dora Sarchese vineyard

Dora Sarchese is a winery company with 18 hectares of land, producing 100 thousand bottles of wine each year[3]. Its main product lines are red wine, white wine, rose wine, sparkling wine, and dessert wine. Don Mimi is the creator of Dora Sarchese’s winery. The company is situated in the middle of the Valpolicella Classico region. It was founded by Dora Sarchese and has been managed by the family since then[4].

This winery pays special attention to the quality of its products, using only organic grapes to produce wines. In addition, Dora Sarchese uses modern technology to produce high-quality wines at affordable prices for consumers. The fountain has been running since 2016 as a way for its customers to enjoy their delicious wines interactively.

Promotion of Pilgrimage route

The fountain of Dora Sarchese winery was installed to provide refreshment to visitors walking along Cammino di San Tommaso, a religious pilgrimage route that passes by the winery’s location on its way to Rome and Santiago de Compostela in Spain[5]. It promotes the Cammino di San Tommaso pilgrimage between Rome and Ortona, which takes place every year.

The Cammino di San Tommaso is celebrated annually in Italy on the last Sunday of May. The pilgrimage starts in Rome and ends in Ortona, considered one of the most important religious events in Italy. The event attracts thousands of pilgrims annually who walk along the path Saint Thomas Aquinas once used to visit his beloved Ortona.
